Becoming a volunteer for The SAGE Project, Inc.
is a wonderful gift to give to our clients, and a powerful
way to join the struggle against exploitation, violence and
addiction.
Our clients tell us that volunteer contributions are particularly
important. Survivors of sexual exploitation have been so ignored,
traumatized, or vilified, that the support of volunteers helps
remedy the deep isolation many of our clients experience,
and reinforces that they are worthy of love, respect, and
caring.
Volunteers may provide administrative help, mentoring, wellness
or health services, artistic or creative writing coaching,
or a variety of other skills and disciplines. Volunteer contributions
can range from donation of services, skills, or time, and
may be structured for a finite time period or project-specific
basis, to internships ranging from 3 months to 2 years.
If you're thinking about volunteering with The SAGE Project,
please take note that:
- Although types of commitments are negotiable,
once you’ve made them, it’s most helpful for
our clients and staff if you are careful to maintain them
relative to timing, punctuality, and accomplishing tasks
carefully. Keep in mind that we are working on building
trust with clients; it’s important that commitments
made to our clients—whether by staff or volunteers—be
made carefully and thoughtfully, and kept whenever possible.
- SAGE is a drug and alcohol free environment.
We ask all volunteers to also be aware that the majority
of our clients and many of our staff are working on maintaining
sobriety. Please avoid behavior or statements which encourage
drug use or relapse.
- Client confidentiality is a SAGE priority.
Any information you have access to about individual clients
or organizational issues must remain confidential outside
of SAGE.
- SAGE has a non-discrimination policy
that reflects the commitment of SAGE staff and volunteers
to treating all individuals with respect and dignity.
- Some volunteer opportunities require that
you be at least 18 years of age. Some are also inappropriate
for court-mandated or community service. You will be asked
to disclose your age and reasons for volunteering when you
meet with our volunteer coordinator.
- We want you to have a good experience! Please
talk to our volunteer coordinator or the appropriate supervisor
if you have concerns, need information or guidance, or feel
that your participation in SAGE could be changed or improved.
