Many SAGE clients say that developing job skills
and preparing to be part of a workplace are primary goals.
Whether a client is trying to escape or transition out of
the sex industries, or wants to create future livelihood and
economic stability, the SAGE Vocational Training Program offers
a range of educational options and resources.
In partnership with The STAR Center, we offer groups on “Transitioning
from Treatment to Work”, in which we focus on planning
for economic dependence and maintaining sobriety. SAGE Vocational
Rehabilitation groups focus on defining goals, identifying
work and training options which suit the client's values and
preferences, identifying what kinds of work feel rewarding,
and creating resumes.
Vocational Training is generally offered by Peer Trainers
who have gone through the SAGE Vocational Training Program
as former clients. Individual peer training sessions focus
on basic office skills including filing, photocopying, faxing,
communications, and reception-desk skills, as well as procurement
and purchasing, workplace professionalism, and preparing for
job interviews.
The SAGE Vocational Rehabilitation Program also offers computer
training, with a basic introduction to computing and training
in word processing, using the internet, and conducting online
job searches. For students with an interest in information
technology, we also offer more advanced training in Excel,
4 Point, and other commonly used workplace software programs.
In addition to SAGE vocational training programs, we may provide
referrals to other specific vocational training opportunities
in the community, and to “Miner Miracle”, which
provides free makeovers with job appropriate clothing, for
clients who want support in learning to dress for professional
environments.
We welcome and appreciate professionals and businesses from
the community who wish to donate time or resources to provide
training for SAGE clients. If you are interested in providing
training, or access to existing training programs, we welcome
your inquiry.
